Theme #1: Leading in alignment with who we really are
I’m experimenting with a new format for my blogs — sharing more of what I’m seeing and hearing in my coaching work with leaders.

One of the most consistent themes I’m noticing is this:
Leaders feel both relieved and energised when they realise they don’t need to fundamentally change who they are to be effective.
When we lead out of alignment, it shows. It takes effort. It feels heavy. And over time, it limits both our impact and our energy.
There’s a real shift when leaders recognise that effective leadership isn’t about reshaping themselves into someone else — it’s about understanding how to lead well as themselves.
In fact, if we want to create teams where people can thrive and do their best work, we need to model that ourselves.
That means:
playing to our strengths
being honest about our limitations
and showing that growth doesn’t require losing who we are
Authenticity — with intention
Authenticity is often misunderstood.
It’s not about “letting it all hang out” or using our teams as a place to offload.
And statements like “I say it how I see it” can mean we overlook the impact we have on others.
Clarity and directness matter.
But in complex organisations, holding only our own perspective can limit what’s possible.
Authentic leadership isn’t unfiltered expression.
It’s being yourself — with awareness, intention, and skill.
What this looks like in practice
At its core, it comes down to self-awareness.
Understanding your strengths — and using them deliberately
Recognising your patterns and default behaviours
Knowing where you might have blind spots
And creating an environment where your team can give you honest feedback
Because sustainable, high performance doesn’t come from perfection.
It comes from leaders who are aware, adaptable, and real.
